Last week I wrote about self promotion. My aim was to take a subject that women tend to shy away from and offer it through a new lens, one which makes you go, ‘Huh, ok, I can do that.’
It turned out to be a very popular article, you can read it here.
This week, as a kind of advice chaser, I want to talk about your support system. You are, after all, an athlete in your own career. It might not feel like it at times, heck life can tell us (correction: our brains can tell us) that we’re small and insignificant, nothing near an athlete with their ongoing requirements, their hydration, their managers and masseuse. I disagree.
Until you stop and see yourself as someone who needs, wants and bloody heck, deserves a system in which to thrive, work - and maybe your dreams - can feel like they are spinning away from you. Or stuck in the plodding here and now.
Without a support system, that useful self-promotion advice from last week just becomes more maddening noise in an already overcrowded life. I know that feeling too. Is that you, below, caught in a blur of work and life, thoughts and expectations?
What she needs is breathing space - and ways to shift out of her daily grind.
We all need to find that place if we’re to work our careers effectively, really wring out the best bits. This place is actually a system.
Without this system you may become the blur entirely. And you are worth more than that; you know it, I know it, your gut is screaming that she knows it too. I’m not talking about a huge change, by the way. I am describing a set of tiny tweaks to rev up your system - to get you thriving again.
Ok, so to make this as easy as possible (theme of the day), I have designed a little diagram. I know, I am impressed too.
Here is my simple Support System: what you need for once.
